Smiths Authentic British Fish and Chips - Balmoral Plaza

The journey to savor the supposedly authentic taste of British fish and chips left our experience more like a misguided adventure. The chips, generously treated to a double frying session, ended up overcooked and resembling the texture of cardboard. The fish batter lacked any discernible taste, possibly forgetting to acquaint itself with salt along the way. Whereas the ice lemon tea masquerading more as lime tea. The overall dining experience was further dampened by the state of the tables, which displayed a noticeable lack of cleanliness, and service that left much to be desired. In the grand symphony of the experience, one is left to question if the establishment's pricing strategy is a bold experiment to determine just how much patrons are willing to pay for an excursion into the taste of the true fish and chips.

Authentic British good traditional beer batter fish & chips! Reasonably price. Homely decor next to British pub airing sports! Casual vibes, good to go in your Ts, shorts and flip flops. Batter remained crispy and tasty even towards the end of the meal. Fish fillet portion is generous, 1 main can probably feed 2 ladies. Thick cut chips, a little soggy on the outside but the inside is soft and fluffy. Pork sausages are tasty and not overly oily. We enjoyed the coleslaw, mayonnaise was thick and creamy giving the coleslaw a good mouth feel. They’ve been opened for 12 years (since 2001?), perhaps that explains the basic decor and rated as 3*. It’s self-service, hence rated service as 3*. Ample parking at building basement. Better to sit outdoors as there could be cooking fumes indoor.

One of the worst fish&chips ever eaten. No tar tar sauce and lemon was given. Don't tell me it's upon request!! Tasteless even with the vinegar and salt provided. Tar tar sauce and lemon is a must! Sausage set for the kids meal was a disappointment. Just 2 small pcs of sausages with fries. You serve such TOUGH sausages to small kids? Seriously?! My kid couldn't even finish the meal due sausages texture were tough. Ice lemon tea was a failure. Not even close to lemon tea. Tasted more like lime juice.. so hard to even drink it! Please improve on your homemade ice lemon tea! The tables were dirty as we need to wipe it down ourselves. Poorly maintained. Price of the food been paid isn't not worth it at all! Don't bother to try and waste your money! Everything was self service. Overall, won't visit this place anymore!

Just had a delightful lunch at this underrated restaurant! Still cannot understand why it was rated so low in google reviews. I ordered the haddock standard, and let me tell you, the crispy battered fish was served moist and delicious with chips. The tartar sauce was the perfect accompaniment, adding just the right amount of tanginess to the dish. It's definitely one of the best fish and chips I've had in a while! I have to say, the boss and staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. They made me feel right at home, and I could tell that they genuinely cared about the quality of my experience. So, if you've heard anything negative about the service here, I can assure you that my experience was nothing short of excellent.

Golden goodness - British edition! Best known for their Fish & Chips and rightfully so. Crispy but not all batter till you can't find the fish. One of the better ones I've tried in SG. I liked the Haddock better than the Halibut though. The chips were a little disappointing but chunky thick cut fries is always ❤️. I wished they had better tartar sauce though. We happily ordered down the list and in the end the table was filled with all-things-deep-fried. The battered Mushrooms were great and juicy (first one burnt my tongue!). The other items are passable not wow. The fish cakes turned out to be like potato croquettes while the Chicken Mushroom Pie was just too dry, save the calories, I've suffered for you. Good option for just Fish & Chips, and you don't really need anything else. The main size portion is generous enough to fill you (and maybe 1 other person too).
